Ha Giang where to stay: pick the stage town first
On the loop you sleep where the day ends. The usual stops are Ha Giang City before and after the ride, then Yen Minh, Dong Van and Du Gia. Not every route uses all of them. A three-day trip skips one or two, and some versions go back by a different road. Choose the night stops first, then look at beds in each town.
Most places are homestays and small guesthouses. Many tour packages include a dormitory bed in a homestay, see Ha Giang Loop motorbike tours with an Easy Rider. If you book your own beds, the price examples below help you judge an offer. Ask your host what exactly is included before you pay.

The stage towns, one by one
What each stop is like and how far apart they are.
Ha Giang City
The start and end of the ride. It is the easiest place to find a bed after the sleeper bus from Hanoi. Sleeping here also makes sense on the last night, when you hand back the bike. See Ha Giang City for the bus and the area.
Yen Minh
About 95 km and 3 to 3.5 hours of riding from Ha Giang City, with Quan Ba on the way. The town lies near a pine forest at roughly 1,000 to 1,300 m. It is a common first night on a four-day plan.
Dong Van
The base for the old quarter, the Sunday market and the ride north to Lung Cu. From Yen Minh it is 50 km and about 2 hours. Dong Van is also the usual night before the pass to Meo Vac. Read more in our Dong Van guide.
Du Gia
A quieter stop in the south, 75 km and about 3 hours from Meo Vac. From Du Gia it is 80 km and 2.5 to 3 hours back to Ha Giang City. The waterfall is in the same commune. See Meo Vac and Du Gia.

Ha Giang loop accommodation: homestay or private room
Prices are examples from 2026, not a fixed rate.
| Type | Price example 2026 | What to clarify |
|---|---|---|
| Dorm bed in a homestay | VND 100,000 to 150,000 per person per night | Number of beds, shared bathroom, blankets |
| Private room | VND 250,000 to 500,000 per room per night | Own shower, heating, towels |
| Some single houses | VND 400,000 to 600,000 per room per night | Extras included in the price |
| Dinner and breakfast | โ | Ask whether a meal is offered and when |
Guesthouse prices in Dong Van fall in these ranges in 2026. They change with the house, the week and the demand. Free beds are not guaranteed on the day you arrive. For most riders on a short tour, a dorm bed with a meal is the simplest choice, while couples and light sleepers do better with a private room.
What to ask before you book a homestay
Standards differ from house to house.
Room and bathroom
A package that includes dorm beds says nothing about the next house. Ask whether you get a private room, your own shower and towels.
Heating
Nights on the plateau are far colder than in the valley. In a cold spell in January 2025, Dong Van recorded 0.8 ยฐC. In winter, ask about heating and extra blankets.
Noise and meals
Dorms can be loud. Ask about dinner and breakfast times if you arrive late after a long day on the road.
Night before the start
If you arrive by sleeper bus, some packages add an extra dorm night before departure. Check whether that night counts as a riding day in your package.
Registration of foreign guests
Your host has to do this, and you bring your passport.
Every place that hosts foreign guests must register them, even for one night and also in private homes and homestays. You show your passport and your entry documents. The owner or a representative reports the stay electronically. Keep your passport at hand on arrival. The rules were updated by a circular of 9 June 2026.
For the Tet holiday in 2027, which begins on Saturday, 6 February 2027, plan early: demand can rise and some services may be reduced.
Where to stay in Ha Giang: frequently asked questions
Where should I sleep on the Ha Giang Loop?
That depends on the route. The usual stops are Ha Giang City, Yen Minh, Dong Van and Du Gia. A three-day plan uses fewer of them than a four-day plan.
How much does a homestay cost?
A dorm bed was about VND 100,000 to 150,000 per person per night in 2026. A private room mostly cost VND 250,000 to 500,000 per night, and VND 400,000 to 600,000 in some houses.
Do all homestays have private rooms and hot showers?
No. Standards differ a lot. Ask about private rooms, a shower, heating and towels before you book.
Do I need to register at my accommodation?
Yes, foreign guests must be registered by the host, even for one night. Bring your passport and entry documents.
Should I book ahead?
Free beds are not guaranteed on your arrival day, so book ahead for peak times such as the Tet holiday. If you are on a tour, the beds are part of the package.
