Getting to Ha Giang from Hanoi
There is no airport in Ha Giang. You fly to Hanoi, where Noi Bai (Nội Bài) airport has the code HAN, and continue by road. Ha Giang lies about 300 km north of Hanoi, and the bus takes roughly 6 to 7 hours. The code HAN stands for Hanoi, not for Ha Giang.
Many travellers go straight from the bus to the start of the loop. If you want the whole trip arranged from Hanoi, see the Ha Giang Loop tours. If you plan the journey yourself, the sections below cover the options.

Bus and limousine from Hanoi to Ha Giang
The usual way to travel.
Two kinds of vehicles run from Hanoi. The sleeper bus has reclining berths in a cabin layout. The limousine is a minibus with seats, a seat category and not a private car. Fares start from VND 350,000 each way for about 6 to 7 hours. The price depends on the cabin or seat, the day and the pickup point.
Buses leave from several parts of Hanoi, including My Dinh (Mỹ Đình) and Gia Lam (Gia Lâm). An operator's office is not always the place the bus actually leaves from, so check the exact meeting point on your ticket. A ticket is for the departure you book, not for any later one, so book with your date in mind.
If you arrive by sleeper bus, the night is not part of the loop days. Some providers add an extra night before the start. See the itinerary for how to count days.
| Option | Time | Price in 2026 | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sleeper bus from Hanoi | About 6 to 7 hours | From VND 350,000 one way | Cabin berths |
| Limousine minibus | About 6 to 7 hours | From VND 350,000 one way | A seat category, not a private car |
| Bus starting at Noi Bai | About 6 hours | From VND 250,000 | Confirm the meeting point on the ticket |

For most travellers, the sleeper bus or limousine is the practical choice. A car with driver suits small groups who want a door-to-door trip.
Hanoi airport to Ha Giang: taxi and transfer from HAN
What to expect when you land at Noi Bai.
From Noi Bai airport (HAN) you have two main ways to reach Ha Giang. You can take a taxi or a transfer into Hanoi and join a bus there, or take a bus whose route lists Noi Bai as a boarding point. Buses from Noi Bai to Ha Giang start at VND 250,000 and take about 6 hours. Some trips name the Noi Bai junction as the pickup. That is a road junction near the airport and not automatically the arrivals hall, so confirm the exact meeting point on your ticket before you land.
A private car with driver from the airport is possible. No standard fare applies for the whole 300 km, so agree the price and the pickup place in writing before you start. Compare at least two offers.
For the way back, ask when you book whether the bus from Ha Giang to Hanoi airport stops at Noi Bai or only in the city. Leave a generous buffer before your flight, because the road takes 6 to 7 hours and delays happen.
