Ha Giang Loop motorbike tours with easy riders
An easy rider is a driver who steers the motorbike while you sit behind him or her as a passenger. This is called riding pillion. On a Ha Giang Loop motorbike tour with an easy rider, you do not need a motorbike licence of your own, and you can look at the gorges, terraces and passes instead of the road.
Most easy rider tours run for 3 days / 2 nights or 4 days / 3 nights and follow the loop through Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Dong Van, Meo Vac and Du Gia. Bring a daypack and ask what the price covers before you pay. Prices are for 2026.

Our picks: easy rider tours
An easy rider drives and you sit behind, so you need no motorbike licence. The 2-day version is the short try-out, the 3-day one is the usual loop, and the small group of up to eight takes four days.
Hand-picked tours, booked through GetYourGuide and Viator. Prices are indicative starting prices in US dollars (as of October 2026). Tap a tour for live availability and the current price in your currency.

What an easy rider tour costs in 2026
Price examples, per person.
| Length | Price in dong | Price in dollars |
|---|---|---|
| 3 days / 2 nights | From VND 4,200,000 and from VND 4,700,000 | $160 (price example) |
| 4 days / 3 nights | From VND 5,200,000 and from VND 5,700,000 | $198 (price example) |
| Driver hired on his own | About VND 550,000 to 700,000 per day | โ |
These are examples, not a market range. The driver hired on his own costs a day rate, and food and a bed for the driver and petrol are usually extra. A package usually bundles the driver, homestay beds and meals, so the totals are not directly comparable. For most travellers, a package is the easier choice, because the price is set at the start.
How riding pillion works
What to expect on the road.
Who rides what
The driver controls the motorbike for the whole loop. You sit behind and hold on. Agree the daily plan and the stops with the driver at the start.
Helmet and clothing
Driver and passenger must wear a proper helmet with the chin strap fastened. Bring a rain jacket and warm layers, because winter on the plateau is much colder than in the valley. Some packages include a helmet, protective clothing and rain gear, so check what yours has.
Insurance
An easy rider does not protect you from accidents. Confirm that the driver holds the right licence, that a helmet is provided and that your travel insurance covers pillion riding on a motorbike. The accident cover that comes with a tour can be limited.
Tips
If you want to tip, plan on about $10 to $20 per driver and day. It is not a rule or a fixed rate, and you decide.
Roads and weather
Mist, rain and landslides after heavy rain can change the plan. The road from Meo Vac to Du Gia is narrow and damaged in places, so a driver who knows it is worth more than speed.
Border area
Some villages near the border may need a local permit. Some packages include a border area entry permit. Ask who arranges it.

What is an easy rider?
An easy rider is a driver who rides the motorbike while you sit behind as a passenger. You do not need your own motorbike licence for this.

How much should I tip my easy rider?
If you want to tip, plan on about $10 to $20 per driver and day. It is not required, and the amount is up to you.
Easy rider or riding myself?
